Why are there ponds and lakes in the mountains and plateaus?

Ponds and lakes in the delta is a very common thing. But why are there lakes and ponds in the mountains and plateaus? - Let's The Fackin' English explain it. TIBETAN PLATEAU - THE ROOF OF THE WORLD As we all know, the largest plateau in China is the Tibetan Plateau, with 4000-5000 meters above sea level, but there are many lakes and ponds. According to some statistics, the area of lakes and ponds here is about 30.974 square kilometers, accounting for 37.2% of the total area of lakes and ponds in China. In addition, there are many lakes in the vast Inner Mongolian highlands. What is even more special is that there are lakes on the high mountain peaks. For example,  Paektu  mountain in Jilin province is 2,200 meters high above sea level, but on the top of the mountain, there is still have a "Heaven Pool" 373 meters depth, with an area of up to 9.3 square kilometers. WHY ARE THERE STILL HAVE LAKES AND PONDS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND  PLATEAUS? Why are there still have ponds
